Mysore is the easiest great day out Bangalore has: 145 km of expressway, no charging stop needed, and a city that has been in the hospitality business since the Wodeyars. Palace, hill temple, a working flower-and-spice market and the fountain gardens on the way home — it composes itself.
It is also a city best done with a car waiting. The sights sit a few kilometres apart, parking near the Palace is its own sport, and the return leg after the evening illumination is exactly when you want someone else driving.

Mysore Palace
The Indo-Saracenic seat of the Wodeyars and one of India's most visited buildings, all stained glass, carved teak and silver doors. On Sunday and festival evenings its outline is lit by nearly a hundred thousand bulbs.

Chamundeshwari Temple, Chamundi Hill
The hilltop temple that watches over the city, a 13 km climb by road. Go early — the darshan queue is shortest at opening, and the view over Mysore is at its clearest before the haze builds.

Devaraja Market
A century-old covered market of banana stalls, jasmine garlands, kumkum pyramids and Mysore's famous sandalwood. Come for the colour, stay for the silk and incense shopping around it.

Brindavan Gardens
The terraced gardens below the Krishnaraja Sagara dam, 20 km out of the city — symmetric lawns, stepped fountains and the musical fountain after dark. It sits on the Bangalore side, which makes it the natural last stop.

Leave Bangalore
Beat the expressway rush and you are in Mysore for breakfast — a proper Mysore masala dosa is the right way to arrive.

Chamundi Hill first
Temple queues and haze both grow with the day. Do the hill while both are low; the city view orients everything you'll see after.

Mysore Palace
Two hours does it justice. Shoes come off; the marble is kinder in the morning.

Lunch, then Devaraja Market
An hour of wandering the stalls, and whatever silk or sandalwood errand you were sent with.

Brindavan Gardens on the way out
Time it for the evening fountains, then sleep the expressway home. You are back in Bangalore around 21:30.
Travel notes
- If your date is a Sunday, flip the day: do the market and gardens earlier and end at the illuminated Palace instead.
- During Dasara, treat this as a two-day trip and book the hotel months out — the city fills completely.
- The Palace requires shoes off and bags through scanners; travel light for that stretch.
