The Nanded guide

Nanded is where Guru Gobind Singh spent his final days and declared the Guru Granth Sahib the eternal Guru — which makes Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib one of the five Takhts, the highest seats of Sikh religious authority. The gold-crowned marble shrine on the Godavari draws pilgrims from across the world, and it holds visitors of every faith with equal courtesy.
The day here is bracketed by its two great moments: the morning prayers beginning around 02:15, and the evening light show at 19:30. They sit eleven hours apart, which is why we say plainly that this is an overnight trip — a day-return from Hyderabad captures neither, and the drive deserves better.

Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib
The Takht itself, marble below and gilded above, built over the place of the tenth Guru's passing. The inner sanctum's rituals here are unique among the Takhts. Entry is free, heads must be covered, shoes are left outside, and tobacco is not permitted anywhere in the complex.

The Godavari ghats and riverside gurdwaras
The river runs close by the Takht, and water for the morning ceremony is brought from it. Along the banks stand the associated gurdwaras of the Guru's time here — Nagina Ghat and Banda Ghat among them — making an easy, meaningful riverside circuit.

Guru ka Langar
The community kitchen serves all visitors, as at every gurdwara. Sit, eat, and let the institution explain itself better than any guide can.

The evening light show
A laser-and-light telling of the ten Gurus' story, run in the evening from 19:30 to 20:30. It is the second bookend of the Nanded day, and the reason the return drive happens tomorrow.

Rooms near the Takht keep everything walkable. Rest through the afternoon — the itinerary's far ends are early and late by design.

The day at the Takht begins around 02:15, with the Prakash of the Guru Granth Sahib near 03:15. Attending is the profoundest thing Nanded offers — and entirely optional; the shrine receives visitors through the morning.

Travel notes
- Head covering is required throughout the complex — carry a scarf or bandana, though coverings are available at the entrance. Shoes off, and no tobacco anywhere on the premises.
- The two things people travel for happen at 02:15 and 19:30. Book the night's stay; a day trip sees neither.
- Decorum at a Takht is taken seriously: phones away inside, modest dress, and follow the sevadars' directions without negotiation.
