Delhi to Agra cab, and the car charges while you are at the Taj
Agra is around 230 km from Delhi on the Yamuna Expressway — roughly three to three and a half hours on an access-controlled road with no signals. It is the most-booked intercity route in the country and the easiest long drive out of Delhi.

Charging on the Delhi to Agra route
There is no charging on the Yamuna Expressway carriageway itself — which sounds like a problem and is not, because 230 km is comfortably inside a single charge. We leave Delhi at 100%, drive straight through, and charge in Agra while you are at the monument. Budget an hour for the charge; you will be away for longer than that. Agra is well served, with a 240 kW unit at ITC Mughal and a second charger at the Marriott a few minutes away.

What to know about this drive
- Petrol and diesel vehicles are banned within 500 m of the Taj Mahal, so every visitor is dropped at the gate parking and walks or takes the shuttle in. Your chauffeur waits at the parking and is a phone call away when you come out.
- The Yamuna Expressway is a closed toll system — the toll is calculated from where you enter to where you exit, so there is no saving in joining part-way. Expect roughly ₹415 for a car to Agra, and about 1.6 times that for a return within 24 hours. Tolls are billed separately.
- Between 15 December and 15 February the expressway speed limit drops to 75 km/h for cars because of fog. Winter journeys take longer and we plan a later departure rather than a pre-dawn one — the opposite of our advice in every other season.
Places to stop between Delhi and Agra
- Jewar: The exit for the new Noida International Airport, about 60 km out.
- Mathura: Krishna's birthplace, reached from the Mathura exit — the natural half-way break.
- Vrindavan: The Banke Bihari temple and Prem Mandir, a short run beyond Mathura.
- Sikandra: Akbar's tomb, on the approach into Agra and much quieter than the Taj.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the Delhi to Agra drive take?
About three to three and a half hours for 230 km on the Yamuna Expressway. Add an hour if you are travelling in the December to February fog season, when the speed limit is officially reduced.
Can we do Delhi to Agra and back in one day?
Yes, and it is the most common way this trip is booked. Leave by 06:00 and you are at the Taj for opening. Book a round trip so the chauffeur waits and brings you home the same evening.
How close to the Taj Mahal can the car go?
Petrol and diesel vehicles are barred within 500 m of the monument, so all visitors are dropped at the West or East Gate parking and go the last stretch on foot or by shuttle. Your chauffeur waits at the parking area.
Can we add Fatehpur Sikri or Mathura to the trip?
Yes, both are common. Mathura is directly on the route and Fatehpur Sikri is about 40 km beyond Agra. Mention either when you book so the day is planned around the monument timings.
Is the toll included in the fare?
No, tolls are billed separately. The Yamuna Expressway is roughly ₹415 for a car to Agra one way. Note that the FASTag annual pass does not apply to commercial vehicles or to state expressways, so there is no way around it.
Will an electric car make it to Agra without running out of charge?
Yes. We depart at 100% charge and plan one charging stop on the way. The BYD e6 returns 380-420 km on a highway with the air conditioning running and a full load, and we never plan a route that depends on arriving with an empty battery.
What happens if the charging station is not working?
Every planned stop has at least one named alternative within reach, and our operations team checks charger status on the morning of departure. Charger downtime is a real problem on Indian highways, which is why we plan for it rather than hope.
Does the charging stop make the trip longer?
We budget a full hour for a charging stop, and we schedule it where you would want a break anyway - somewhere with a clean restroom and food. Often it takes less, but we plan the day on an hour so a busy charger does not put you behind schedule.
